Boston’s iconic Celtic punk band Dropkick Murphys have announced a U.S. tour scheduled for February and March. Known for their high-energy fusion of punk rock and traditional Irish music, the band has been a mainstay of the scene since forming in 1996 and rose to widespread fame with their hit “I’m Shipping Up to Boston.”
The Dropkick Murphys’ tour will kick off in Portland, Maine, on February 9, featuring The Aggrolites and Haywire as supporting acts on all dates leading up to Boston, except for the March 7 show. The tour will wrap up with five special St. Patrick’s Day performances in Boston, Massachusetts, with Haywire joining Dropkick Murphys for four of those shows.
Earlier this year, Dropkick Murphys released their latest album, For The People, further cementing their reputation for socially conscious punk anthems and powerful live shows. The band also released a music video for the album’s lead single, “Chesterfields and Aftershave,” directed by Jon Vulpine. Released in honor of Grandparents Day, the video highlights themes of family and legacy.
Reflecting on the song, the band said, “This is the second single off our new album For The People. The song is about Ken’s grandfather and the important people in all of our lives…”
